It is produced from the same vineyard as its younger version, but through a meticulous selection of grapes, which are left on the plant for a longer period.
Although not reaching the withering stage but a slight overripeness, the Lugana manages to maintain a remarkable composure and rigor, giving it the ability to look at evolution without fear but with great confidence. In fact, the greater concentration combined with the secure structure of its acidity allow the grape to undergo a vinification aimed at unusual aging prospects for a white wine.
The must ferments in steel at carefully controlled temperatures. A small part of the future Menasasso matures in barriques for about 18 months.
After 6 months of bottle aging, the product can be released from the cellar.
It has a straw yellow color that ranges from light to intense depending on the aging stage it is in.
On the nose, it is intense in complexity, allowing for a rediscovery of the grape's fundamentals in citrus fruits, this time sweeter, in aromatic herbs, in the enveloping and well-balanced minerality.
The perfect integration with the time spent in barriques was sought, so much so that neither on the nose nor on the palate is it an evident element or disturbance to the wine's expression.
On the palate, it is warm, engaging, harmonious; it maintains remarkable cleanliness and linearity. The persistence is dominated by a sweet gradualness that ends with great finesse.
The first vintage was produced in 1998.
It is considered a reference point for the use of wood combined with Lugana, a grape variety that, given its aromatic austerity, requires great attention in vinifications of this kind; this wine aims to be the example of using barriques to explore the potential complexity of the grape.
