The Lugana Sansonina originates in an area of gentle hills belonging to the Tertiary period (about 15,000 years ago) that, thanks to its proximity to Lake Garda – which was formed around the same time – enjoys a mild and favorable climate. On this land, particularly suitable for vine cultivation due to the good presence of clay in the top layer, supported by a rich underlying limestone skeleton, the Trebbiano di Lugana has established itself, becoming one of the most successful vineyards in Italy.
