Chiaretto is a historic production of Valtènesi and the entire Lake Garda area, and the traditional technique has its roots in the work of the Venetian senator Pompeo Molmenti who, having married a wealthy woman from Salò, owned a villa and some vineyards in Moniga del Garda.
It is said that Molmenti's intuition was born during a trip to France, where he greatly appreciated the French rosés and deepened his knowledge of their production methods. Back in Italy, Molmenti applied the "white" winemaking process to the traditional grapes grown around Lake Garda, namely Groppello, Marzemino, Barbera, and Sangiovese, contributing to the creation and spread of a type of rosé that has remained alive and appreciated over the years.
